Pugzilla
Pugzilla is here to save the day (and maybe destroy a city or two).
Pugzilla vs. Corg
The idea initially came to me after seeing marketing for Godzilla vs. Kong. As someone who always has pugs on the brain, I thought to myself, “Pugzilla vs…. Corgi? No, King Corg!”
I quickly drew a sketch of the two dog kaiju fighting as a parody of the movie’s promotional imagery. By the time I posted it on social media, I already loved the character.
A fan favorite
I couldn’t stop with just one post. I soon turned Pugzilla vs. Corg into a poster design to sell at conventions. While it wasn’t a runaway success, I could see in the excited reactions I got from people that I was on to something.
I kept picturing a black-and-white design with a red Tokyo in the background. I added spikes and a logo (which says “Pugzilla” to the best of my ability) and an icon was born.
Pretty soon, I added Pugzilla to my business card and convention backdrop, making him my unofficial mascot.
The inspiration
My wife and I got our pug shortly after we got married, and my life has never been the same.
One of my favorite things at conventions is when other pug lovers see Pugzilla. We’re all obsessed with our squisky, wrinkly, bug-eyed dogs because they are simply the best.
